Inspired by Chillida Leku

Inspired by Chillida Leku, I have recently drawn some of my favourite sculptures of his, starting with what is without a doubt his most famous, the Peine del Viento, The Comb of the Wind. It stands at the end of Ondarreta beach and to watch the waves break over it is a favourite pastime of many locals and tourists alike. Coloured pencils and ink.

Harri IV. I love the pinkish stone in this sculpture and was inspired to start a series of them after visiting the amazing open air Chillida Leku museum just outside Donosti:

Homenaje a Balenciaga. Another Chillida Leku illustration and such incredible colours in this metal sculpture – so many once you look closely.

This Chillida Leku sculpture, Buscando la Luz 1 , Looking for the Light 1, is enormous and is one of the first you see as you walk into the museum.

(All originals and prints are available through author’s website. She is also happy to take commissions.)

  1. Love these, Suzanna–I don’t know how you managed to make colored pencils and ink look like metal and to reflect light, especially on the last two sculptures!
