Cantabrian Sea Life

I wanted to draw a series of Cantabrian fish. The local ones that are so popular in the Donosti Aquarium (and also in the restaurants!). My first and probably favourite is the humble Anchovy, or not quite so humble as it turns out as he is a firm favourite with almost everyone!

Another popular creature that can be seen in our seas and eaten in our bars is the Octopus – Pulpo in Spanish. Wonderful colours and so many legs to draw!

I was going to draw this White Tuna, Bonito, in mainly shades of grey until I looked closely and saw all the wonderful blues shimmering in the light.

Another famous feature in local waters and in local dishes is the Rodaballo, or Turbot as is it called in English. Such amazing patterns on its skin and such fun to draw. Coloured pencils and ink

(All originals and prints are available through author’s website. She is also happy to take commissions.)
